BEIJING — Watching the placement of a new large aquarium in the living room, your household trinkets reportedly felt cautiously optimistic at the prospect of a new life. “We’ve been hidden in drawers and nooks and crannies for a few years now — we’re all hoping to be given a chance at a new lease of life in that aquarium,” said a small plastic turtle you bought at a craft store in Jakarta in 2012, admitting to reporters that life in a rarely-opened drawer was personally frustrating. “I had high hopes when I was brought here,” said a small silver tiger haggled for in an outdoor bazaar in Beijing in 2014. “I’ve been stuck on this shelf that no one looks at for three years so if I get a chance to live submerged underwater with fishes constantly swimming by, that would be a real reward.” At press time, your household trinkets were left untouched as you decorated the aquarium with new trinkets bought from the pet store instead. 👁‍🗨
