Excelllent article! We grow a variety of peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, as well as squash, in our tiny front yard garden (maybe 500 sq ft). If we take care of them they produce more than we can eat.
Potatoes have taken over 1/3 of the garden. No matter how thoroughly we dig them up, some tiny ones are left, and they grow into new plants. Two or three crops a year. (We live just north of San Francisco where climate is moderate.)
All these are delicious! It is magical seeing soil and compost and water and air and sunlight turn into delicious food.
