Response from a grumpy old white man.

Last night during the Olympics coverage I saw a commercial where a couple of hubbies — white men — were behaving like jackasses — trying to pole vault over the back yard pool using the long-handled pool net. The wives were ensconsed on the lounges, calmly looking for the best medical coverage on their phone apps.

If this jackass jumper had been an Asian or Black or woman, there’d be protests against the network to get the offending ad taken down, and somebody would have to be fired.

Who can be ridiculed and portrayed as a stereotype these days? The list grows short. Thus so many doofless man portrayals.

What’s the answer? A big push to expurgate yet another class of potentially offensive ads? My preference would be that everybody just ease up on feeling offended. It needs to be fair. If you’re going to poke fun at me, I want to be able to insult you as well — without being called a racist or whatever.
