I don’t think it was lazy at all, they are very similar. I think you’re taking it as an insult against Ferrell when it really isn’t. Ferrell’s persona is energetic, Wilder’s was sleepiness. It’s easy to see effort in energy. Neither’s general persona is necessarily better than the other, and saying someone is trying isn’t an insult.
