The Truth About Part-Time MBA

After 18 months, I finally finished my part-time MBA while working full-time. Eighteen months isn’t that long, and it isn’t short, either. During this time, I have gone through the pandemic lockdown and changed jobs. Many of my schoolmates too. As we toasted to our last class of the year with our professors, it still felt surreal that another phase in my life had just ended.

Sitting down with a glass of pina colada by the waters on my hard-earned break, I decided to type away how I felt about the experience to reflect and close the chapter in my life.

A new double-life schedule

Most part-time MBAs happen in the evenings after you clock out of your full-time day job. I expected such an arrangement wouldn’t be ideal since my work can stretch into the evenings at times, and I would never be able to remain attentive after a full day of focused attention at work. I was lucky to find a part-time MBA that takes place on the weekends at my alma mater. Lucky me. I decided on the spot and got a place there.

9–6 on weekends meant I didn’t get any TGIF during the week I had school. Weekends without school will be spent on preparation and finishing off the assignments. I believe that people who take on a part-time degree are the greedy ones who refuse to pause their career and earning power. In reality, we can’t…
