This time, I had been so reluctant to begin week 3. I was afraid to confront an unknown. Last week, the “terminal” gave me stressed my understanding of computers. I felt like I might be a person on the outside looking in.

In someways I fear the unknown and feel afraid of non-existent consequences.

Anyway, I got moving.

As per usual in this course, the first thing I had to do was watch a video entitled “Writing Paragraphs of Code.” It was only 16 mins long, but I took about three hours (!) to finish watching it. My personality is such that, I seek to truly understand a concept before taking another step forward.

While I was watching the video, I often stopped to copy diagrams presented by Charles, jotting down the teacher’s explanation in my notebook. Also, my trusty electronic dictionary was close at hand, I made sure each of the definitions were memorized. Computer terminology is somewhat difficult, even in my native tongue — Ha ha.

On the video, I mainly learned three kinds of important code structures: Sequential code, repeated code, and conditional code.

Next was the Quiz. I received 90%, safely passing.

And then, I did my first assignment. It was fortunately very simple: writing a script to display the output ‘hello world.’ Even I could finish it in a short time, Charles showed me exactly how to do it in advance. Good for me.

Therefore, I safely finished week 3... What a relief!
