A delegation representing the Mile Unity Foundation (MUF) recently visited Kazakhstan and met with business leaders, accelerators and government representatives to discuss the launch of several pilot projects in the blockchain space. Mile Unity also held several meetings at the ministerial level of Kazakhstan, as well as with the mayors of Pavlodar region and Astana.

The Astana Hub and blockchain initiative

The productive discussions centered around the possible creation of a blockchain laboratory within the Astana Hub, an international IT startup hub and accelerator backed by the government of Kazakhstan. Among MUF representatives on the meeting were Bolat Smagulov, Mile Unity Silk Road Ambassador and Deputy Head of Secretariat at G-Global.

According to preliminary agreements, Mile Unity Foundation implant blockchain technology into the process of Astana Hub’s grant funding for startups distribution system, so it will operate in a transparent manner open to public review and scrutiny.

The launch of the blockchain laboratory also means Mile Unity Foundation will serve as an ongoing advisor to the Astana Hub on key issues regarding the development of the blockchain initiative.

During the meeting Smagulov made a promise that the official presentation of the project will be soon. Mile Unity is expected to lay out details surrounding operation of the Astana Hub’s blockchain initiative.

Pilot project with Astana administration

Mile Unity representatives also held several meetings at the ministerial level of Kazakhstan and met, in particular, with the mayors of Pavlodar region and Astana. With the last one city, it is planned to launch a pilot project, similar in its idea, as with Astana Hub.

In Kazakhstan, there are many infrastructure projects that are developing with the help of private capital. ‘In order to guarantee transparency and that funds from private investors are used appropriately, the distribution of funds will be managed by the Mile Unity Foundation blockchain solution’ said Smagulov during the meeting.

During the working visit to Kazakhstan, the delegation of Mile Unity Foundation, led by Smagulov, also met with representatives of the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC). This project, initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is tasked with the creation of a regional financial hub.

The South Korea-based Mile Unity Foundation discussed the possibility of becoming a resident of the AIFC that would avail MUF to special tax and legal considerations. The legal framework of the AIFC is based on the principles, norms and precedents of England and Wales, as well as the standards of the leading international financial centres.

Residence at AIFC would help Mile Unity Foundation to use the best legal practices to operate and launch pilot projects in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan is among the most targeted countries of Mile Unity Foundation. One of the key non-profit organisation representative in the region is Bolat Smagulov that entitled as Silk Road Ambassador. He is also Deputy Head of Secretariat at G-Global. This is an international info-communication platform for effective search of solutions to global economic problems that was created on behalf of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
