Playing Devil’s Advocate — who cares if it is 4.7 faster? Is that really a selling feature?
Sebastian Patten

Probably not a big incentive for small apps with few dependencies and contributors, but when deploying to shared integration environments shaving seconds let alone minutes off the pipeline can make a significant difference by speeding up the feedback loop. With regards to these numbers I’d be very happy to see a 2.5 minute decrease or 5x improvement in our nodejs build times. Unfortunately I’m seeing the opposite on my local machine where npm is significantly faster. It could be related to osx or possibly AV software, but the dep linking slows to a crawl. I think possibly the bigger draw may be predictability and assurance that devs and environments have the exact same versions and structure.
