WiKey at AddVenture Zagreb 2015

Ilica, Zagreb

This was a fun one, but also one of the most horrible feelings we ever felt. It was our first pitch competition ever. So far all of the pitching we did was explain the idea to our friends and you could be as descriptive and abstract as you wanted because well, you didn’t have a time limit. And no, 180 seconds weren’t enough to do the trick.

It was the 20th of April. Our goal was to arrive to Zagreb, pitch and then go get a new Macbook Air because we needed a way to experiment with iOS apps. All seemed fine until the moment of the pitching came. There were somewhere around 10 teams and we pitched the last because of some random order. All of the teams were pretty good but I felt that our idea was much more better as it wasn’t an app for teaching your kids colours.

The moment came for me to pitch and as I stood up and went in front of the crowd my mouth suddenly dried up and knowing that John Biggs of TechCrunch was listening to me I kinda had a mini nervous breakdown. I forgot my text, I skipped from the first slide to the third, forgot my text again, oh it was a mess. John told me it was one of the worst pitches he ever had to listen to and I have to agree with him. It was definitely one ugly experience for me that left me awake until the morning. But, it was the turning point for my public pitching. Finally took it seriously and learned from the mistakes. You have to prepare accordingly. Don’t expect magic to happen because it won’t!
