Why Are You Waiting For the Weekend?
“I’m Over This Week!” “Is It Friday Yet?” “I need it to be the Weekend!”
Some of us are guilty of blurting out these phrases from time to time…Actually lets be real most of us say this each and every week. I get it, adulting most of the week can be both intense and monotonous. Gone are the days of elementary school when your biggest set back was when your mom washed the jeans where you kept your packaged Charizard card (I’m still recovering from this), or the days of middle school when the realist struggle was missing the latest episode of the OC… I never got into this but you get the picture.
Here to stay are the daily pressures facing us millennials; getting through your education (let’s not forget the exorbitant costs!), clawing and fighting to find a job and once you acquire said job all the stress that can accompany it. I know the struggle can be real out here, the day-to-day grind can seem never-ending. Whether you love your job or not, the fact that you’re working can be a drain and allows less time to do other things.
With all that being said, more emphasis needs to be put on what you do with your time outside of working hours.
Take a second and think back to middle school or high school. If you were like me you didn’t mind going to school because you got to see your friends on a daily basis and participate in various activities, among other things.
I understand that many circumstances and responsibilities have changed in your life since grade school but there are some essentials that can and should be implemented from “grade school you” to “current you,” that will help you unlock more fulfillment out of each day, below I’ve outlined my main two. Feel free to share some things you do to optimize your weekdays.
Find a Hobby That you Enjoy
At face value this is really obvious but the truth is not many people have a hobby. If someone asked you right now “What is your hobby?” What did you think of or say? How long did it take you to think of it? If you went with watching TV, playing video games, drinking or shopping I’ve got news for you those don’t constitute as hobbies and definitely don’t contribute to making the most out of your weekdays.
By the time graduation hits or when one enters the workforce most people decide to drop what kept them sane which is also usually what distinguishes them as an individual, I think this is a big mistake. Whether its art, playing a recreational sport or playing an instrument. I personally believe that revisiting or picking up a hobby is essential in keeping you, you. What hobbies (new or old) can you pick up within the next week?
Get Together With Friends During the Week
I know this can seem like an ambitious undertaking. Scheduling time to meet with friends after work is easier said than done, but meeting with friends shouldn’t be restricted to the weekend. You have seven days a week that you can allocate even two hours of your day towards hanging out with the people you like, not just the weekend. After spending time with friends you’re always left feeling content and happy that you caught up and if you don’t…. You probably need new friends. This week rather than going home after work or school and binge watching a Netflix series try organizing some time to re-hash some memories with a friend, you wont regret it!
The most valuable resource you have is time, think about that for a second.
Time is the MOST VALUABLE commodity we have here on earth yet we take it for granted every day by limiting how we make use of our time to weekends.
Next time you catch your self saying “I can’t wait for the weekend,” ask yourself what you could be doing outside of work or school that will change this mentality, it’s not easy and it definitely is a process but taking these steps is well worth it.
What do you currently do or will you do to get more enjoyment out of your week?
