This reminds me of Some Kind of Wonderful. It’s my favorite teen flick and I’ve watched it a zillion times. The parts of the movie about the rich girls and the poor girl trying to fit in always get me in the heart. Your story makes me realize I always just took it as a movie, but this is real. This happens. And now as I’m writing this, I remember it happening to a Native American girl at my elementary school in Great Falls, Montana. (The fashionable girls told her that her attempts to look up-to the-minute were clearly from a thrift store or her mother’s sewing. She was SO MUCH nicer than they were!)
