Launching Mills Digital

The story behind our launch

For those of you that don’t know, me and Jo Fipps have started a company. It’s called Mills Digital.

As the name suggests Mills Digital started out as my own freelance web development career. I wanted to learn more about creating things for the web so there was no better way than to jump in and start creating websites.

Turns out Jo Fipps had been doing the exact same thing. He had been doing freelance video film, editing, and production. Through his own YouTube channel and the freelance projects he had worked on he had grown tremendously.

Last year I met Jo and we instantly hit it off creatively. We both loved to create things for the web. I loved to create websites and he loved to create videos. The rest is history.

I asked Jo if he wanted to work together on a project and see what we could do together. I had been working for a client that was looking for a fresh website and promotional material and I knew Jo was the perfect fit for the job. We traveled to the clients site and began working together. The project turned out better than expected and ever since that day we have been working on more projects together and growing in our skills.

We finally got to a place where we knew we could make this a business. So over the summer we set up an limited liability company and began to take paid work. Our goal was to work together over the summer in order to get more portfolio work before we officially “launched” our business in the fall of 2014.

We went crazy this summer making websites and videos for organizations and business in Southern Indiana, Denver, and Chicago. We continued to grow and learn more about how we worked together as a team. Throughout the summer we realized that we could use some more help with video and design.

We found three friends hungry to get more experience with design and video production and added them to our team. Currently we are team of five and could not be more excited about whats to come for our company.
