15 Great NYC Winter Date Ideas!

What’s the best way to warm up and spark the romance when it’s (at best) chilly or (at worst) blustery and terrible outside? Luckily, NYC has plenty of fun and flirty ways for you and your partner to have a good time!

1. Ice Skating

It doesn’t matter whether you and your love are both beginner skaters or whether one of you is a former hockey player; you’ll still have fun strapping on the skates and hitting the rink at one of NYC’s many ice skating venues. From iconic Rockefeller Center to the picturesque Riverbank State Ice Skating Rink, there’s a piece of ice to please everyone.

2. Cupid’s Undie Run

Take it all off (well, mostly off) and get a bit of exercise as you and your S.O take off on a chilly one-mile race around Pier 84.

3. Get Cozy at Camp

When it’s cold outside, there’s nothing like cuddling up next to a campfire and feeding one another s’mores. This Boreum Hill restaurant gives couples the chance to do that while playing board games and enjoying delicious cocktails.

4. Hang Out on the High Line

A former rail track that’s been turned into a park — the High Line, offers New York couples a great place to hang out above it all and bask in the sun when it peeks out on nice days.

5. New York Botanical Gardens

Thaw out and explore the breathtakingly beautiful universe of plant life at New York Botanical Gardens.

6. Go MoMA

If plants aren’t your thing, a visit to the Museum of Modern Art will give you a chance to strip off the parks and hold hands while you wander around and exchange thoughts on the artwork.

7. Get the Sled Out

Why should sledding be just for kids? You and your partner will be left giggling and out of breath as you pile back onto your toboggan after a spectacular crash. Try either Pilgrim Hill or the less-steep Cedar Hill in Central Park.

8. Have a Central Park-nic

Cold or snowy weather shouldn’t deter you from having a romantic picnic. Just the opposite; there’s nothing more cozy than snuggling up on a park bench and watching your breath fog the air while sipping from a thermos of hot chocolate.

9. Get Your Fix at Marie Belle’s Cocoa Bar

If the weather’s too miserable for snacks and cocoa in the park, stop in to Marie Belle for a bite to eat and a cup of one of their decadent hot cocoas. For an extra treat, top it with freshly ground hazelnuts.

10. Visit the Museum of Sex

When it’s cold outside, there’s always the option to heat things up with a tour of the Museum of Sex. From sex dolls to sex toys and sex on film, this place has it all covered…and uncovered.

11. Visit a Speakeasy

Sometimes the best way to warm up is with a good drink. Why venture out in the cold when you can spend the evening being taken back to Paris during the height of the Jazz Age? Tuck into Tribeca bar The Django to sip exciting cocktail recipes while enjoying their raucous floor show.

12. Look at the Stars

Wintertime is the best time for stargazing in NYC. Columbia’s Stargazing & Lecture Series equips you with a telescope and the knowledge you need to give each other about the moon and the stars.

13. Take a Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride

Ok, so it’s touristy. But sometimes, the best way to enjoy the city (and each other) is to look at things through the eyes of a visitor — and have you ever seen Central Park while snuggling under a blanket in the back of a carriage? No? You only live once!

14. Dine in a Yurt

Warm up over fondue and drinks in a toasty alpine yurt in The Standard’s amazing Winter Garden. For those who aren’t familiar, a yurt is an oversized, glorious tent — the ultimate form of “glamping.” The Standard is maintaining the yurts through March 1, 2017.

15. Take a Gelato-Making Workshop

Because why not? Even if you never make a batch at home, you’ll still have bragging rights that you know how to do it.
