I don’t think Knibbs called anyone a victim. Instead she’s suggesting that Uber and other proponents of the gig economy are trying to normalize the idea that everyone should need a side hustle (thus the “everyone needs a side hustle” from their ad). They are suggesting that it should be normal for middle class people to need more than one job. Further, Uber suggests with their messaging that having a side hustle is part of a good work-life balance. Knibbs is suggesting that this messaging is false and prevalent among proponents of the gig economy. I agree with her on these points.
