Hello froglets! So my team and I were decorating and crafting in a beach/summer theme. I told the team I would bring in some crab cakes for our monthly potluck to go along with our beach/summer theme. These are what I brought in…

I think they turned out super cute.
Supplies needed:
- Cupcake with frosting
- Light brown sugar
- Orange Slices
- Orange Gum drops
- Peach rings
- Candy Eyes (I make loads of these at one time and store them for future projects, because you alway need eyes) I will share in a future post how to make these.
- Toothpicks

I used a vanilla cupcake with lemon frosting. For the sand I dipped the frosted cupcake into loose light brown sugar, causing the frosting to be smooth, even, and to look like sand.

Next cut the tops off some orange gumdrops. Throw away the bottoms of the gumdrops. Just kidding you will want to eat them, no seriously keep them to use as different size eyes. They will be sticky so you can just stick the eye on the cut gumdrop. Then cut a toothpick in half, take each half of the toothpick and pushing it up through the bottoms.
Cut a curve “claw” out of the peach rings. Take another toothpick and cut in half. Push each half through each of the claws to create a kind of arm or claw.

Now to assemble the crab… Holding the orange slice with the curve to the bottom. So your orange slice will be upside down. Push in two eyes in the top of the orange slice. Then on each end of the orange slice push in a claw. Now you have your crab and it just needs to be mounted on top of the cupcake. I added just a little extra frosting just to make it stick better, then put more light brown sugar around the crab just to cover the extra frosting.
There you have it a cute summer crab cake. Everyone was so excited about crab cakes with our potluck. I even asked if anyone had any “food” allergies. The reaction I got when I opened the container was priceless.
Have fun with this summer craft. This could make a cute April fools joke!!
