That’s what the ER doctor said to me when I went to the hospital today. I gave myself atrial fibrillation for the third time, and each time, alcohol was the culprit. The doctor was right. I am too young for this. At 28, I’m dealing with serious health issues that are being brought on entirely by my poor decisions. I refuse to let a few hours of “fun” outweigh the potentially disastrous and highly inconvenient consequences. I can’t tell you if I’ve genuinely hit rock bottom, but wherever I am, the chasm is scary and I’d rather rappel back up now while I still can. My justification for drinking was “I only imbibe once a week”. Well, that’s more than enough, as it turns out, to trigger these problems. I’ve been lurking here for a few years now and some of the turnaround I see from y’all is nothing short of inspirational. From now on, instead of pissing away my weekend with beer, I’ll pick up some hobbies I’ve been neglecting. Thanks, /r/stopdrinking. Here’s to health. I’ll see you around.
