Youth voice as a service

If an organisation exists to serve the interests of a given group or community (in this case young people) it is preposterous that they should try to do so without involving their end users. When they do try to operate without any young people’s involvement the dangers are that staff become over-professionalised and disconnected from their true purpose. There is a danger that the work of the organisation becomes self-serving and may even alienate some young people — especially those who feel, or who are, marginalised or excluded.
