To outsource or not to outsource? That is the (manufacturing) question. ;-)

One of the most important issues in a hardware project is to evaluate the pros and cons between outsourcing or manufacturing at your own premises. We have made some initial calculations that are considering both of these scenarios, including materials and processes.

As we explained in our White Paper, most of the headset components of our project will be easily manufactured and assembled at the users’ premises with current 3D-Printer technology (mainly Fused Deposition Modeling) and reputable off-the-shelf components. We will make sure that the headset is easy to build and assemble with safe, certified parts and proven ergonomics.

Example of 3D-printed headphones with Selective Laser Sintering technology

For the users that desire a higher quality end product, we envision either manufacturing the headset ourselves at our own atelier or outsourcing it to a high quality service bureau that can build it to specs and possibly even customize it to the technical/aesthetic needs of the end user.

We want to deliver a pleasing to see and highly functional device that can be readily hooked up to the Mainnet and be used immediately.
