Slice of American Life

Slice of life as an
American, namely, me,
on the morning of

September 6th: Called
Senator Portman to share
specific concerns

about Kavanaugh
hearings; listening to such
proceedings as they

happen; got a text
requesting that I knock doors
this weekend for Dems

in my area;
talked to a Bible-toting
couple at my door

discussing treating
others with love and kindness
just as Jesus did.

Why, you wonder, would
a Jewish, feminist, card-
carrying Dem have

that conversation?
We must listen to others
with compassion and

kindness. This is what
is missing in our country.
Whether religious,

political, ed-
ucational, personal….
we must be guided

by a respect for
others who show us respect.
Lead by example.

That is what I have
attempted to do my whole
adult life. Just so

you do not get too
concerned, I was sure to weave
my political

views throughout my talk
with door-knocking visitors.
I mentioned my yard

signs — one for Danny
O’Connor, one for Sherrod
Brown; I told them what

was on my tv;
I said that I understand
how difficult it

is to knock on doors
of strangers to share what is
important to you.

We talked of hope and,
of course, I asked if they were
registered to vote.
