Google and Facebook aren’t the only two companies uninterested in ‘letting’ users read in this way. There’s a chance it will only get worse, as each platform fights to be the place you read, locking you into a system where they control both the words written and read. In this scenario, ‘unfiltered, uncensored, and spam-free’ are not characteristics that are seen as favorable by those making money off of you (through advertisements or other means), but they are beautiful words to people that just want to read something of value.

I hadn’t really thought about the big tech companies having a stake in deligitimizing RSS as a way to get news, but that makes sense. A free and open way to tailor your news hampers their efforts to lock you in.
