It is this period of Ethash mining when everyone is again talking about DAG size and what to mine with 4GB GPUs? The DAG sizes of two major Ethash coins - ETH and ETC - are slowly approaching 4GB, which means that 4GB GPUs won’t be able to mine them anymore.
In one of our previous articles, we have explained the situation in detail and also show how to prolong this even for a few weeks and how you can find other coins to mine. In this article, we are presenting a new tool - DAG size calculator and calendar for Ethash coins. It will help you check the current DAG and epoch sizes at any given time for any Ethash coin and better plan your mining activities.
DAG size calculator
DAG size calculator allows you to select the Ethash coin and explore different DAG related settings of that coin: block height, corresponding epoch, corresponding DAG size, and estimated time when such combination will be reached.
If you change any of the parameters, other parameters will get updated as well and the date will be automatically re-calculated.
That‘s how you can check:
- The estimated time when a certain block will be generated;
- The estimated time when a certain DAG size will be reached;
- The estimated time when a certain epoch will be reached;
- At which block height a certain DAG size will be reached.
DAG size calendar
In the DAG size calendar, you can see a table of various Ethash coins and the estimated dates and block height when a certain DAG size will be reached. The table shows DAG size limits of 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, 5GB, 6GB, and 8GB - as these are RAM values of popular GPUs and ASIC machines.
Please note that these dates change every 3 to 5 minutes as we are calculating them from the last detected block time, which is dynamic. In other words: we are not using a fixed block time value.
The DAG size calculator will update values once you change any of the parameters and the DAG size calendar will update values after refreshing the website.
