Ranking test compulsory for all higher institutions!
The number of institutes who participated in the rating has dropped to 2,995 in 2017, when compared to 3563 in 2016. This drop comes in as a wake up call to the government. It may make it mandatory for all higher institutes to join the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Apart from making it mandatory, the HRD ministry is looking at relaxing the criteria for rankings. The reports says that the ministry is in talks with the authorities like University Grants Commission.click here.
The NIRF’s ranking method is based on 5 broad parameters
- Teaching
- Learning and resources
- Research and professional practice
- Graduation outcome
- Outreach, inclusivity and perception
These are the broad parameters, the maximum score a university can get is 100. There were only 6% institutes in the second edition of NIRF, sources say that the reason cited by the ministry for non –participation might be lack of awareness, non-eligibility or simple lack of documentation.
To encourage more institutes to participate the ministry is looking at tweaking the subheads and questions under the already existing parameters. According to ministry figures, India has 39,000 colleges, 11,000 standalone institutions and over 760 universities that together constitute nearly 51,000 institutions.
