“I’m Hulk Smash”

Wonder. Since I can remember, there’s always been a tension when I lead worship in the community of the church. When I woke up I simply asked God, “where’s the tension coming from?” “The answers simple”, I heard God say. He said, “people are deciding on whether I am who I say I am. They struggle due to the ‘reality’ of life in comparison to how I’ve asked them to live. I’ve asked them not worry. I’ve asked them not to fear. I’ve asked them to just trust and believe. This is difficult for them and why they struggle to stay in awe and wonder of who I am.”
My second son Benjamin has one of the most vivid imaginations I’ve ever seen. In an instant, he can be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and just as fast he can be The Incredible Hulk, or as he says “I’m Hulk Smash!” In seconds Benjamin can be flying a spaceship to capture giraffes who escaped from the zoo and are flying away (these are real stories!) He is captivated by so much and it’s great. He doesn’t allow what’s happening around him or who’s watching dictate how he responds when his imagination takes him somewhere, wherever that may be.
As we go through today, my encouragement to you is, just as Benjamin isn’t phased by ‘reality’, let us stay in awe and wonder of who God is. The Bible says we are to be “peculiar” people. I take this as when culture says I should be worried or anxious, my faith and trust are in Him. When it would be “natural” to give up on a dream God’s given me, because I’m in such wonder of who He is, I press on. My great friend Joshua Jones said this and it stuck with me, “Jesus in His most mature was the most child-like.” Don’t let your “reality” dictate your worship and wonder.
