Stockhausen in 1967

Karlheinz Stockhausen is a cutting edge writer from Germany, who has formed numerous well known present day music. Stockhausen was a standout amongst other electronic and spatialization melodic author in the twentieth and 21st century. Stockhausen has been forming music since the 1950’s until 2007 when he died.

Some of Stockhausen’s theory was based up on many of the past composers like Debussy (french impressionist), Chopin (romantic composer, Bartok (Romantic composer), Stravinsky (Famous violin composer) and Mozart (classical composer) and many more. He has used the theories and the compositions of the past composers and directly used the theory into his composition to show the analysis and the theory.

One of Stockhausen’s most well known unusual piece is the Helicopter String Quartet. Stockhausen utilizes the string group of four (Violin I, Violin II, Viola and Cello) having every one of the instrument on one helicopter.

Image shows Stockhausen has used analysis images of the composition both graphically and in lines.

Graphic Score of the Helicopter Quartet(http://www.stockhausen.org/heli_graphic_expl.html

In my composition of the city i have combined the four sounds from four different places to show the different sounds that combine in the city at different times.

  1. The voice of crowds on the streets near uts
    2. Early Birds in Chinatown
    3. The sound of vehicles coming and going on the road near the central station
    4. The sound of shopping in the supermarket

I use the relatively smooth line as the time when there is not much noise. The line where the lines float is larger represents the fluctuation of the size of the sound. The places where the floating frequency is fast represent the noisy local sounds. Most of them are expressed on the noisy streets and crowd noises.
