The M1128 Mobile Gun System is an eight-wheeled armored car with the Stryker armored fighting vehicle family, using the Canadian LAV III light-armored vehicle produced by General Dynamics Canada.. It mounts a 105 mm tank gun. Following a end with the Cold War some theorists considered that the present suite of U.S. armored vehicles, designed largely to combat Soviet mechanized forces in Europe, just weren’t well suited towards the lower-intensity missions U.S. defense force will be tasked with later in engagements in Afghanistan and Iraq. This triggered the roll-out of a brand new armored fighting vehicle designed for lower-intensity combat, as opposed to large-scale engagements.

At the end of 2013, the U.S. Army began seeking to reintroduce an air-drop mobile airborne protected firepower platform to offer fire support for air assault forces, a capability that were absent considering that the retirement in the M551 Sheridan in 1997. General Dynamics initially considered modifying the wheeled Stryker MGS to satisfy your need, though the company instead developed the tracked Griffin light tank technology demonstrator becasue it is offering for that Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) platform, that has been unveiled in October 2016.
