Outback — the Challenge

This is part 2 of the “Outback” series, you can start here.

Before all else, here’s a simplistic picture of the challenges facing the East Kimberley region of WA, broken down into 4 categories:

Young population

Lack of Education

Low Employment

Poor Housing / Overcrowding

Looking at this Quality of Life Index paper, we’ve in fact have just gone from an area with the best quality of life in Australia (Ku-ring-gai) to the worst (Halls Creek). Luckily, while these charts and data paint a rather bleak picture of the Kimberley region, our experiences over the past week have been quite the opposite. There’s been a real good vibe around town and people here couldn’t been warmer.

Over the next few weeks, the plan is to tackle our education project and pocket a few new experiences during our spare time (we’ve got camping trips, off-road driver training, local footy final and bunch of other goodies in sight so no shortage of things to do here).
