In the name of Jesus

“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:13, 14)

These are the words of Jesus as He spoke them to His disciples, and as they are documented in the Bible for us today. We know well enough that the words Jesus spoke are spirit and they are life. (John 6:63). That is, they are not just dead words written on paper; but they are equipped with power to ensure that whatever they purpose will be accomplished. (Isaiah 55:11)

If this is the case, however, (which it is) why is it that so many times nothing is done when we ask a thing and say “in Jesus’ Name” after?

As we have established, Jesus’ ability to keep His promise is not the issue, the only other culprit then will be us. No, not Satan or his agents, for Christ has overcome Satan and the world: and Christ and His word are one. This leaves us guilty as charged. Could it be that we really are not asking in Jesus’ Name?

Let us first clear this matter:

What does it mean to ask In Jesus’ Name?

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7)

When Jesus spoke of asking a thing in His name, He did not quite mean that every time we ask a thing we must attach “In Jesus’ Name” to the end if we want to see a result. This is not saying that it is wrong to add “In Jesus’ name” when we ask a thing; but beyond doing just that, Jesus meant something much deeper.

In John 15:7 Jesus tells us that if we are hidden in Him with His will [His words] hidden in us, we will ask what we desire, and it will be done for us. Here’s the mechanism: when we are hidden with Christ in God, we lose our will — we lose ourselves. Then everything in the makeup of Christ — word, will, life, power, commandments, desires — becomes what makes us up. We gain all of Christ. And so while in this state, when we ask a thing, we are asking in alignment with Christ’s will which is God’s will. In this state, our asking aligns with the purposes of God. And God’s purpose will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

This is what it means to ask in Jesus’ Name. Such that, if you ask or declare a thing even without verbally saying “in Jesus’ Name”, it will be done because all the forces of heaven must back up God’s will. So get into the reality of being hidden with Christ in God because in this place everything you ask in the name of Jesus, He will do it.
