Sadly, I’m not surprised by this. I’m male, have been disabled since birth and have witnessed how disabled people in general are treated. That women with disabilities have it worse likely stems from the fact that, for most able-bodied people, we are either invisible or they wish we were.
Consider the following: I’ve had medical professionals react with shock and dismay that I would be interested in having a sex life. Most men don’t get that kind of reaction. If it has happened to me (and presumably to other me as well) then I would expect the reactions to be much worse for women, simply because women can become pregnant and the default position for most would be,”But she could never properly care for a child”.
