24 Ways to Add Balance to Your Life
These could be your first steps to a happier you
Do you struggle to balance so many areas of your life you feel like you are trapped in a forever spinning hamster wheel?
Between taking care of your health and fitness and trying to stay on top of your career. Or trying to balance spiritual and mental health with a fulfilling, rewarding social life… Does it feel like you’re constantly swimming against a tsunami? And let’s not even get started on personal relationships. Because how will you ever manage to give your loved ones the quality time they deserve?
You know that being in balance is the best place to be. But how do you get there?
Here are some ideas how to add more balance to your life:
1. Define what a balanced life means to you.
You might think that having a balanced life means spending the same number of hours on work as you do on personal activities. But the right balance for you today, may not be the right balance for you tomorrow or next week or next month, because over time your priorities change.
2. Set meaningful goals.
Don’t let others set your goals. Instead, think about what you really care about, and set meaningful goals to accomplish what matters to you.
3. Embrace a healthy lifestyle.
Your health is crucial if you want to have a happy and fulfilling life! Remember to find time to invest in your physical and mental wellbeing! Eat healthy, get enough sleep, stay hydrated, and work out regularly!
4. Prioritise.
One of the best ways to become productive is to work smarter, not harder! Write down 3 important tasks and 6 smaller tasks to accomplish each day. Then do the most important things first! Allocate time for each task and try not to get distracted by social media, which often leads to procrastination.
5. Avoid negativity.
Adopting a positive mindset and staying away from negative influences and toxic people is essential for your happiness. Avoid gossipers, critics, haters and other energy suckers, who generally make you feel worse.
6. Meditate
Meditation is one the best things to balance our fast-paced lives. It has numerous benefits for both your body and mind, and one of the habits we would advice you to adopt to get the very best of yourself.
7. De-stress after work.
When you get home from work, take some time to do something you enjoy before beginning your evening’s routine. Knowing how to de-stress is really important for shutting off your work life at home.
8. Celebrate even small accomplishments.
Remember that both accomplishments and failures are part of balance. Most of us have plenty of both already in our lives, but we may not always pay equal attention to both. Try to focus less on your failures and to celebrate small moments of success as well!
9. Give of yourself.
When we help others we also feel good about ourselves. What charity things could you do? How could you use your talents, time or money in the service of others?
10. Do things you are good at.
Take on responsibilities in areas in which you are good at and ask for help in the ones where you are struggling.
11. Practice gratitude.
“When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reasons to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.” — Tecumseh
Gratitude allows us to celebrate the present. It magnifies positive emotions and blocks the negative emotions. When you are grateful, you can´t be angry or fearful or envious.
12. Don’t forget to have fun.
Don’t take life too seriously! Every day leave yourself some time to enjoy, to be silly, to laugh!
13. Reflect on where you are.
Write down your weekly and monthly reflections, stop and think about where you started and where you are now, and appreciate how much you have accomplished.
14. Keep a journal or use a planner
Write in your journal at the end of the day. What did you get done? What would you have liked to get done? What could you do differently so that you’re more productive and feel happier? (Perhaps consider the Balance Planner or a Minte Journal!)
15. Unplug.
Time spent on social media should be meaningful and inspiring, not taking you in a negative loop of comparison and fomo. Take time to unplug, our tip is to take an hour off the phone before sleep and after you wake up.
16. Exercise your mind.
Educate yourself about the world around you, dive into books, listen to educational podcasts, watch videos — whatever works best for you to learn new things.
17. Take care of your nutrition.
You really are what you eat! Eat food as close to nature as possible. Reduce the amount of processed food, sugar of all kinds and animal-based food from your diet. You will feel so much better and more energised!
18. Hydrate.
It sounds so effortless and easy, but how many of us really drink enough water throughout the day?
Drink more pure water, and avoid drinking flavoured drinks that are loaded with sugar. It’s critical for our mental and physical wellbeing!
19. Simplify and declutter.
Throw away everything that no longer serves you or makes you happy.
20. Create something.
Art, music, poetry, design, whatever that sets your soul on fire.
21. Be a time-realist instead of time-optimist.
Be realistic about what you can achieve in the time you have available. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. And we cannot possibly do everything that we want to do and everything that everyone else wants us to do.
22. Take small steps every day.
Every day make sure, no matter how small the effort, that you do something to achieve your bigger goals and to create your dream life.
23. Find your WHY.
Find your purpose, without it nothing matters. You can work 40 hours a week, have an active social life and a number of good habits, but if there isn’t a reason why you are doing it, these activities won’t mean anything to you and won’t be fulfilling.

24. Get yourself a Balance Planner.
The Balance Planner will help you organise your whole life, not just your schedule, and add more balance and joy to your busy days. You will be surprised how under just 5 minutes a day it will have such a big impact in your life!
The Balance Planner is now available on Kickstarter.
