Don’t panic! The meaning of life explained in a Minty way

Today’s story isn’t about the Dharma Fly, sorry (that’s coming soon too!) but about something dear to me. I struggled with it a lot and finally got my answer. The pressing question every person in their 20s (or later I guess but I’m not there yet) faces is:

What am I supposed to do with life? Why am I here?

I like to think (and have experienced) that little mindset tweaks can turn into huge A-HA moments making our lives happier and more peaceful.

For example in one of my articles @ SuccessStory I show how a small mindset change completely shifted my idea of what success is. That’s not a lecture, just a few important questions.

I wanna ask you a few more, this time, right here. And I will give you my answer but want to hear yours as well. Because, we already have all the answers if we dig deep under the spiderwebs of modern thinking.

Over the past few weeks I’ve come across another tweak that is just divine.

It’s about ego, the real you, the purpose of life and the universal power that surrounds us and is us. I’ll call it God for short but that lacks religious affiliation whatsoever.

Now, let’s imagine the perfect job (bear with me for just two paragraphs and we’ll get there).

For me at least, that would be a job that…

….gives me job security so I never have to worry about paying the bills.

…gives me growth opportunities so I can dream big.

…allows me to explore my talents and skills and develop them.

…allows me enough free time to do the things I want.

…lets me experiment and take on new routes.

…gives me a kind, knowledgable, loving, supportive, forgiving and powerful leader.

…lets me make a real difference in life.

…inspires me to help people and see how their lives become better through my work.

…appreciates me as I am, doesn’t need me to change or pretend.

…recognises my efforts and rewards them.

…rewards integrity and good practices.

…doesn’t ask me to compromise with my values.

…promotes peace, win-win and kindness.

…has a boss who always takes care of me.

…where I’m rewarded for doing the right thing.

…gives me a place in something big and important.

…has a leader who guides me and enjoys my unique contributions.

Anything else?

I’m sure we can go on forever but I hope you get the idea.

What if we worked for someone who is so great that just being next to them is worth every effort?

I remember a teacher I had who felt like that. In high school I was a literature major and had three distinct literature classes. From a class of 30 students we were rarely more than 20 in class, everyone skipped school. And then we had a new literature teacher for one of the classes.

The class was always full. We were there not because we cared about the attendance sheet or the finals. Rather, because we wanted to soak in the wisdom and insights we got. I spent hours on essays I would have otherwise written in 20 minutes.

This is the feeling of the ideal boss — a teacher and a powerful leader. So powerful that you just want to give up and give in and say “Yes, sir!”.

But I hear you “I can’t be apprentice forever, I want to do my own great things!”.

And what if I told you that there is job you can do with a boss that lets you take your own decisions, create and move in the direction you want?

Wouldn’t you do everything do become employee of the month? To learn everything? To serve this superior person that guides you, gives you all the resources you need and lets you spread your wings to do what you love and do best?

Well, hello!

You already have this dream job. You’re already living this and it gets better…

The job is LIFE.

The boss is GOD.

Let me explain…

Can we both agree that humans are the most sophisticated creatures on the planet?

Yes, okay…

Can we both agree that everything, from our Moon to the algae, has a distinct and necessary role in the way the universe works?

Yes?

So what is the meaning of life or the job of a human?

Why are we created and what the hell are we doing here?

Simply put, God send us here to do his work (same as he sends the algae)

I think of it as a huge theatre play in which each of us has a role. And if we do it well, everything goes awesome, if we don’t — it’s a fail.

Finding your role might be easier than we think — just serve the big boss. Go with the scenario….and it all works great!

When we try to go against the scenario we struggle, feel pain, frustration and dissatisfaction. But if we have faith that the play is amazing and our roles matter, we say our lines and it all works great.

Working for God rocks!

You might find this confusing and have a billion objections like most people I share it with. I, myself, was struggling to comprehend the fact that I’m here to serve God. Because, “What about me?”.

Hear your ego screaming in horror by the idea of living a life of serving God rather than getting what you deserve?

I hear mine! So I wanna let you in on my thinking process and “shhhh” the ego

Calm down — it’s all about you anyway.

But there is a slight tweak (yes, this is THE tweak) — you don’t need to have a go get it mentality to be taken care of and live the best life possible. It will be given to you if you do your job well.

When my ego starts the “What about me?” ramble, I go and tell it that it’s not responsible for taking care of me. The boss is. God is. And he will do it as long as I do my job.

In my understanding of the world, my job is simple and includes only 3 things:

1. Take care of everything on Earth staring with my body, my soul, my pets and my family and extending to strangers, trees, my laptop and the people I work with.

2. Being kind to everything and everyone because they’re just doing their job, playing their role in the scenario.

3. I to them, God to me. This means kind and selfless acts are what I need to do to please the boss and live the life that’s meant for me.

This might seem a little like a business deal to you and it sure looks like one.

If I do my job well, I get a good life, that’s it?

The thing is that if your goal is to get a good life, you’re not serving God, you’re serving the ego. And that can never be good.

So the goal of life?

Being employee of the month.

We get the life that we need and we create. The universal power has no concern about good or bad as those are labels we give to things (details in another post).

The things we do have effect on what happens to us.

Imagine what would happen to a bee that refuses to create honey and just flies around all day, travelling the world. Seems impossible, right?

Then why do we do it? Ego.

Silent the ego by serving the universal power and everything falls into place.

Mind me, this isn’t a Law of Attraction mumbo jumbo. You won’t get your dream car just because you are kind to the cashier.

But you’ll get the life you’re here to live, and that’s way more exciting, isn’t it?

This was a rather long post, at least way longer than I intended it to be. So if you don’t have the time right now or wanna share over coffee with a friend, here is an overly simplified

Summary

Life is God’s company. Everything and everyone has a job they need to do for the company to flourish. Our job is to do what we do best for the benefit of everything in the world. If we do our job well, we enjoy happiness, purpose, inspiration and accomplishment. If we don’t, God is kindly and patiently showing us h0w to improve.

Trust the universal power. Do your job well. Life is beautiful when you live it like that.

The sheep might think its righteous to run away from its path but it’s just because it doesn’t see the wolf in the bush.

Enough of this, right? You got my point and I let you in on my thinking process…

Now I want to hear your buts and ifs….My favourite part of writing these controversial blog posts is discussions. So hit me up with why this doesn’t make sense (or it does to you) and let’s explore it together.

With LOVE,

Minty.

If you want to learn more about this from a person who explains it way better than me go read “The Living Gita” (recommended by my dear friend who writes over here).
