Lorde’s Hidden Message In Support Of The #TimesUp Movement At The Grammy's

At the Grammy’s we saw all types of displays in support of the #MeToo movement. Well Lorde, in her ever evolving awesome self, found a new way to support the movement that was right out in the open yet hidden from most of us as we watched the famous awards show.

Lorde found a very interesting way to support the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements and make her voice heard given she was the only female represented in her category. As well, Lorde was reportedly the only nominee not asked to sing solo at the awards show.

Lorde took to Instagram showing the back of her red ruffled dress with an excerpt of the feminist artist Jenny Holzer’s “Inflammatory Essay” sewn into the back of her dress. The Instagram post read: “My version of a white rose.”

The excerpt of the famous essay that Lorde chose to sew onto her gown adds a bright spotlight to the #MeToo movement including the topic of whether or not there were enough female artists nominated at this year’s Grammys.

The excerpt reads:

“Rejoice! Our times are intolerable. Take courage, for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstance can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors. The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Contradiction will be heightened. The reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom.”

Many people celebrated Lorde’s indirect way of protesting the Recording Academy’s exclusion of female artists at this and previous year’s award ceremonies.
