The catagories came about because the US was trying to end Discrimination thru Affrimative Action & needed Statistics. I actually think AA achieved a lot more than its given credit for but always was cumbersome to impliment. Since according to Putin or the Chinese Communist Party”Due Process” is the American Disease- the government needed statistics not observation on which to base decisions of Discrimination & measure compliance. Thus the 1977 standards, never updated due to political resistance & keeping the record straight.

Under the Standards Hipanic does include Spanish & Portuguese speaking peoples from either the Western Hemisphere or the Iberian Peninsula but does not include Italians who are considered White Non Hispanic. Being that it is the US it has a self Determining process so either choice you made Fab would be correct. You can not however choose somthing you’re not.

One of the paradoxs is that if you were born in Mexico as the child of White Southern California Hippies you cannot list yourself as Hispanic. However if you have Children, even if their other parent is from Appalachia, they can claim to be Hispanic because their parent was born in a Hispanic Country.

Since I am of an age where the form was written not online I usually marked the other box & said either Human or Terrestrial.
