Joy & Peace

I was reading Romans 15:13 the other day, and while it’s a well known verse that I have read and even quoted to many people before, this time something caught my eye and encouraged my heart like never before.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 NIV)

Notice how it says “AS YOU TRUST IN HIM”? This tells me that joy and peace come WHILE I trust Him. These two are simultaneous. Sometimes we pray and ask for joy and peace so that we may trust Him, or believe His word. But joy and peace come WHILE we trust and believe. They are a consequence of our trust, as is the hope that overflows us by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Florian always says that everything in the Kingdom of God is done by faith. Salvation is by faith, healing comes by faith, revelation comes by faith, signs and miracles and wonders come by faith, but so do peace and joy.

I choose Faith today. I choose faith over fear. I choose to believe and trust that His word is true, His promises remain and He will fulfill every last word He has spoken. That, gives me peace, joy and hope — and these three are all I need to go through another week, to fight the good fight and to keep my eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of my FAITH.
