Can we please retire the phrase “morally bankrupt”?
It’s one of the more annoying buzz-phrases of the twenty-teens, at least partly because it literally makes no sense. Morals aren’t like money, where if you manage them wrong and spend too much you end up with debts. And anyway, bankruptcy involves either reorganization where debts are forgiven or liquidation where the company ceases to exist. Seriously, these words don’t belong together.
Please can we stop?
Here are some phrases you can use instead:
- Wrong
- Corrupt
- So infested with evil you need an exterminator to fumigate the joint
- Republican
