Why don’t they have white history month?
Why does everything have to be about race?
Kestley Knoble

Why can’t there be a white history month? Because that’s the rest of the year.

Only people of color make an issue about race? Um, white girl here, talking to you about racism. What am I, chopped liver?

Oh, you meant if you tried to say you are being discriminated against because you are white, you would be called a racist. That’s because white people are and always have been the racial group in America with the most power. Institutionalized racism against white people does not exist. And no, affirmative action is not “reverse racism.” So generally yes, if you start yelling about how your life is made difficult because you’re white, people will see you as perpetuating a racist social order.

As for the “good guy with a gun” argument, that’s been disproved so many times it’s getting exhausting. Having a gun doesn’t make you safer. It really doesn’t. Even in a home invasion, the scenario most commonly cited as why people keep guns at home “for protection,” you are safer without a gun than with one.

I have to say I’m disappointed. I thought you were going in an interesting, thoughtful direction here about how drunk driving doesn’t get the attention it deserves. But instead it turns out that even though you want to make alcohol illegal, you don’t think guns should be regulated and you don’t think race has anything to do with it, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. And you went in the “race card” direction, playing the victim of people of color out to ruin everything by being overly sensitive and making everything about race. Disappointing.

Oh well.
