It is the responsibility of designers to maintain a balance between the digital world and the physical environment. It seems nowadays, digital media has begun to overtake and replace real and physical experiences for many people. Through my app, I hope to maximize the experiences users who are not on a general tour have on campus, with only a dose of helpful technology.

When visitors open my app, I don’t want them to see campus through a digital interface. The less interaction they have with their phones, the stronger their experiences will be exploring Carnegie Mellon. The purpose of the app is to match visitors to a current student or faculty at CMU and explore campus according to their match’s suggestions. I hope that this connection to a current member of the CMU community will create a more personalized and enriching tour for visitors. Augmented reality will be utilized in this app, but solely to guide users to their next destination and to give inside looks into closed rooms or past events placed in those destinations.
