Stop Telling your Kids that School Will Prepare them for Life

Thank you for your insights. I think you are right that this is a tendency among teachers. I do want to encourage that there are those of us that do prepare students for life. Here are some things that I do:

  1. I look for quiet students and have them give me an answer.
  2. I encourage students to try hard even if it means making many mistakes
  3. They work in teams to perform tasks and accomplish work
  4. I ask students hard questions and debate them on their answers and ask other students to jump in

I am not sure if you find this agreeable or encouraging, but some of us are striving to prepare introverts and extroverts
