On our original list of things to see in China, was Zhangye Danxia Geopark and its rainbow mountains in Gānsù province. However, the route we planned made it the last thing to visit and a potential to drop off if time was too tight!

There are four viewing platforms to admire the colourful hills from and you visit them by taking the park's shuttle bus system. The area covered in colourful rocks was bigger than expected and the different colours truly came through. We were wondering whether it rained at night since the colours were so intense. It was nice to compare these colour rock formations with the ones we got to see in Skazka in Kyrgyzstan. They're both very unique and a landscape we are not familiar with in Europe.

Zhangye National Wetland Park

On our final day in Zhangye, we visited the Zhangye National Wetland Park just outside the city. A pretty large wetland area with a labyrinth of wooden boardwalks through it. We didn't have much luck in spotting any wildlife they claim to have but walking through the park was indeed a peaceful activity.
