Pregnancy consists of a whole list of things to stay away from, and lip fillers have made that list.
Is it safe to get lip fillers during pregnancy? Answer: definitely, no.
Doctors are forbidden to knowingly inject lip injections into a pregnant patient. What is the reason? The effects are simply unknown during pregnancy. No studies have been performed on the safety of these products during pregnancy and should, therefore never be used. We do not know if it is dangerous, but we also do not know that it is safe. We have no idea if this will do any harm to the baby. Therefore, it is advisable to schedule such a procedure either before pregnancy or after the lactation period.
Most fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance in the body. Therefore, some doctors suggest that this substance is safe for both organisms. It is worth noting: The FDA recommends that you do not use lip injections during pregnancy. Therefore, you should consider the situation and abandon the procedure.
Also known as injection implants, soft tissue fillers, or wrinkle filler dermis fillers have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help create a smoother or fuller look in the face, as well as to enlarge the back of the hand. The agency warns that “the safety of these products is unknown when used during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or patients under 18”.
It is also important to note that the safety of these excipients mixed with other types of dermal enhancing therapy has not been evaluated in a controlled clinical trial. The FDA also states that these medical implants can cause short- or long-term side effects, permanent side effects, or a combination of both, such as bruising, swelling, pain and rash. Less common but still possible complications include increased bumps, infection, allergic reaction (some fillers include eggs, animal products or lidocaine) or necrosis (tissue death).
Many women experience a naturally increased size of their lips during pregnancy due to the increase in estrogen, blood flow, fluid and swelling caused by pregnancy, regardless of whether they have ever received lip fillers.
