3 Simple ways to reduce stress

Everyday we hear about stress, admit that we are under it, but don’t take it as a serious problem. Stress is apart of life, it can actually be good for you but chronic stress leads to serious health complications if not attended. It begins in the mind and leads to physical complications, due to the working relationship of the brain and nervous system.

As a business person, it’s your duty to show up and be the best version of yourself for your job, colleagues and especially clients. Stress is easy to brush off, but it’s definitely hard to hide. What’s going to happen when it’s too late and you are left burnout? When not only your health and wellbeing are affected but your career, relationships, finances?

Last year when I started my business, I was prepared to work more than I ever have in my life. This definitely caused me to stress at times, though I knew it was expected in taking on a great responsibility. The sleepless nights, financial investments, fears, ups and downs, you name it, I’ve been there.

As a Lifestyle Coach who promotes balance and a healthier way of living, it was mandatory that I practice what I preach. Here are some ways that I personally use to combat stress.

Exercise. Exercising has a major impact on reducing stress levels. You feel better overall because your mind is more alert and the body produces endorphins causing you to be more content and relaxed.

Meditate: You are probably thinking sitting with legs crossed, eyes closed and deep breathing for an hour? If that works for you, go for it. But, really just take a few minutes throughout your day to shift your focus on what’s working in your favor instead of the issue that is causing the stress. Breathing is a tremendous component because when the body is under stress you tend to not breath at a normal rhythm. Focus on your breath, take each one in slowly while utilizing the power of visualization to bring you to a place of content, notice how the body responds.

Say No: This is a tough one in the world of business. As you continue to evolve in your career, more opportunites, offers and money come your way and it’s tempting to say yes. If you were to say yes to everything you would end up biting off more than you can chew and get overwhelmed. Prioritize your goals and choose which you feel the most aligned with in the time being.

What are some techniques you practice to keep your stress levels low?
