Angela’s 4 Tips for Healthy Eating
Good nutrition is essential for proper health and maintenance of your body. Some of the benefits include: improvements in heart health, cognitive function, weight control and increased energy levels. Nutrition involves the amount of processes by taking nutrients from food and utilizing them to lay the foundation of growth, repair and maintenance of the body.
Developing healthy eating habits is key to good nutrition. Strict dietary limitations and depriving yourself of foods you enjoy are a short term, unhealthy solution to a long term lifestyle change. By educating yourself into making healthier nutritional choices you are more capable of improving your eating habits.
Here are my 4 tips:
Small Changes
Going cold turkey altogether when beginning a healthy diet leads to giving up or cheating. Your mind and body need time to recognize what’s going on to develop a habit of what is going on. Slowly incorporating healthier foods into your diet will become routine and you will progress.
Variety
Adding a variety of food to your diet adds necessary nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. There is no one food group that contains EVERY nutrient! Also, it’s fun to explore all types of food.
Moderation
Moderation in the nutritional sense is eating less of unhealthy (junk) foods. Avoiding these foods altogether you deprive yourself, become a victim of temptation and overconsumption.
Portion Size
Compare food portions to common household items and measuring devices. This helps in consuming appropriate food amounts.
