I appreciate this comprehensive article about the IAPWE’s philosophies concerning client/freelancer relationships. The points and tips are clear and actionable, illustrating what has been working well for them. As a new editor for the IAPWE, I am still learning their process for acceptance of and payment for work. This article has been very helpful in addition to the other communication I have received from various members of the IAPWE. I have been very pleased with the straightforward and detailed expectations listed for each job and appreciate the warmth of the responses to my questions. As stated in the article, each available job at the Freelancer Dashboard lists several (10+) bullet points outlining the requirements, and we can reference the IAPWE’s eight point, thorough Submission Guideline. Online business communication can be challenging, and the IAPWE goes far beyond the second mile to be sure we fully understand each task. They don’t want to waste our time or theirs.
Being relatively new to the world of freelancing (my previous freelancing experience has mainly been with two, steady clients), I welcome how the IAPWE encourages (and pushes!) me to explore the various platforms and means for obtaining work. I have learned much from my short association with them, and I am looking forward to a long relationship with the IAPWE. As mentioned in other comments, as a freelancer, I would much prefer being able to work several jobs at once instead of waiting so long in between jobs, but the IAPWE is forthright in its acknowledgement that this is a less-than-ideal situation and that they are working to improve the situation. I have already seen how my association with the IAPWE has helped me to grow as an editor, in both confidence and presence. I appreciate the IAPWE’s use of feedback on the Freelancer platform; as we all know, clients want to know they can trust who they hire and positive, detailed feedback from a pleased client goes a long way to establish credibility.
I anticipate a bright, lasting working relationship with the IAPWE.
