Getting ready for Valentine’s Day

We started our Valentine’s Week yesterday with painting with the color red! It was everywhere. Preschoolers just love to be messy! One of my students hands were covered in red paint so I told him to go wash his hands and all of studden he yells to me, “PINK, PINK”! His hands turned pink because he added the white soap. I thought wow that is a great idea for the whole class to learn and we will do it tomorrow!

This is what each child had: a blank piece of white paper, red paint, white paint and a paintbrush. We first talk about what we thought might happen to the paint. One student said, “It will change.” I had the children begin painting to see what happens when we mixed them together.

We learned that when you mix Red and White paint together you get the color Pink!

This is a great activity for kids. It isn’t just painting its a learning experience.

Try it with other colors:

Red + Blue= Purple

Yellow + Blue =Green

Red + Yellow=Orange
