Who is Miss Megan?

Hi Friends,

My name is Megan, and I am a preschool teacher. I recently moved to the South; Nashville, TN from the New England area. Boston will always be in my heart, but so far I am loving my new city of Nashville. This is my first blog post, so I wanted to introduce myself and what my blog is going to be about. I decided to write this blog because I wanted to document my lesson plans each day. While driving to school one day I thought “wow this year is flying by!!”. Its crazy how fast time goes and I decided that I needed to capture each day. So here I go…

First a little background about myself. I am the youngest of 4. I have two older brothers and 1 older sister. I am the baby of the family and will always be called the baby! I grew up in the town of Walpole, Massachusetts. I lived in Massachusetts from birth until I was 22 years old. I went to college for Early Childhood Education and Dance Education. I also have a minor in Special Education. After college I taught preschool for a year and then decided to make a big move to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I nannied for a wonderful family, and also worked part time as a therapist for an autism agency. We lived in Pittsburgh for about 3 years, and then moved to Rhode Island. I went back to teaching preschool and also did dance teaching part time. We lived in Rhode Island for about 3 years and just made the move to Nashville in August.

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I can still remember sitting in my fourth grade class and we had to write “What I will be when I grow up”. My first thought was teach and it has never left my mind. I love kids. I believe they are our future and that is why teaching is so important. I love how preschool children minds are just learning about the world and life. They are so creative and their imaginations are truly amazing. The other day while sitting outside during a fire drill one of my students asks, “Why do the sticks live in the grass?” What a wonderful question I tell him and I turned it into a whole class discussion on trees and nature. We even decided to go on a nature walk instead of going inside and doing what was next on our schedule. That is one thing I will talk a lot about in my daily posts - SCHEDULE! This is something I tend to struggle with. As a teacher I am also a planner, and I need things to go in a certain order. But that is something my students teach me. You don’t always have to go with the plan, sometimes it’s better to take the spontaneous path.

I have many years of experience teaching all ages, but I do love teaching the preschool ages the most. I am currently teaching preschool and loving each day! I will share our daily projects, lesson plans, quotes of the day, planning strategies and so much more. I hope you all enjoy my daily thoughts and enjoy the adventures of life through the eyes of children each day!

Sincerely,

Miss Megan
