From an OG fan of the original nonsense of UFC to a casual follower now, I think the biggest culprit for stalled popularity is the modern styles which prioritize safely collecting points. Every time I try and get back into MMA, it seems that the sweet science has devolved into two guys just constantly measuring each other with meek jabs and feints and afraid to lose. I know KOs still happen, but the fights are generally humorless and measured sparring sessions instead of wild and fun brawls. It’s how Mayweather might just be the “greatest” fighter ever, yet people think he fights like a chicken and has single-handedly killed boxing.
