Life changes at 35–45 are a big part of this, kids and family and drifting of friendships. Also at this age reality sinks in as the culture of “everyone gets a trophy” and “you can change the world” are shown to be the false promises they are. Most people simply will not be the world changers their parents told them they would be. Nor does everyone, or even the most deserving, get a trophy. This is the age when your ego takes a beating and life really piles up around you. This same feeling is part of what the “mid-life crisis” is about. One feels trapped and under appreciated in work and life. The only real options one has is to have a mid-life crisis and blow up your life and start over, or grind it out like one does in a long video game to level up enough to win. Choose wisely as it’s hard at 40 to start anew with less energy and less time.
