I applaud your sensitive presentation of the divide between ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ — having worked with disadvantaged folk during my career I’m acutely aware of social divides and how unrelentingly cruel this can be. You claim logic brings you to your belief that there has to be a purpose. I don’t see that at all. “Can you imagine being put on earth for the sole purpose of suffering?” This statement carries within it many assumptions, not least being the implied notion that an actor ‘put us on earth’. If you accept that, then your argument may be logical within its own self-referential framework but that doesn’t do it for me. The reality of many people’s harsh and unrelenting lives is hideous, but I don’t need to construct an imagined somewhere (heaven?) to find a balance or validation. I don’t think that’s logical.
