For Them

“In light from the dark, there came a spark.”—Emily King
Meditation: Love and Gratitude, seven minutes
Everything went right yesterday. I was lighter on the scale than I expected to be. My bus was on time. Disneyland was far less busy than any trip in recent memory. We got a great Star Tours adventure. We tried the Minnie & Friends breakfast buffet at the Plaza Inn for the first time and were overwhelmed by characters and quality vittles. We MaxPassed. We day drank. We rode the re-opened railroad. We Fantasmic-ed for the first time ever!
We lifted each other up. We joked that this was not the group inclined to stop you from living your best life. We’re not going to deny decisions that spark joy even if they don’t make fiscal sense. There are lots of things happening that can bring sadness and frustration and anger. We’re awash in those feelings these days. So, if you want to make a choice that brings forth a smile, you’re probably not going to hear a discouraging word from me.
I’m grateful for the people and moments this week that brought me pure unadulterated feelings of happiness and warmth, laughter and possibility. Last weekend’s Museum Day crew; my birthday phone call with my grandmother; jokes on the metro after dark; inclusion in important work conversations; feedback about the impact I have on my colleagues; my bullet journal, pens, markers and the #rockyourhandwriting challenges; lunch at Simmzy’s; yesterday’s nearly perfect day; and, the potential for delight today.
I’m grateful for the helpers in Houston, and the rescuers we passed on the freeway yesterday morning after an early morning accident. I appreciate those who continue to pick up the fight for the soul of our nation and especially for those around me who have already been doing so much and then ask, can I do more? Almost always, they find the answer is yes.
Me too.
I acknowledge and celebrate all of the things in my life that represent the best of humanity, the best in life because it reflects on these incredible people I’m surrounded by, friends, family, and strangers that are out here doing the damn thing.
This is for them.
