Using Ledger in Misthos when Chrome is Not Your Default Browser

We recently introduced the ability to integrate Ledger devices into your Misthos Ventures to greatly improve the security of your funds. For the time being, actions that require a Ledger can unfortunately only be performed while using the Chrome browser due to issues with U2F support.

For those of you who use a browser other than Chrome as your default (and would like to keep it that way), here is a guide for signing into Misthos from a (non-default) Chrome browser. We are documenting these non-intuitive steps here to help you get through this onboarding issue, but luckily they only need to be performed once:

1. Click on ‘Home’ in the Blockstack Browser menu bar.

2. Copy the URL (http://localhost:8888) from your default browser into Chrome.

3. Click “Sign in with an existing ID” and complete the sign in flow.

4. Back in your default browser, sign out of Misthos.

5. In Chrome, go to misthos.io, and click “Sign in with Blockstack”, which will redirect you to your default browser.

6. Copy the URL in the default browser and paste it into Chrome.

7. Complete the sign in flow in Chrome.

8. Continue with your Ledger integration in Misthos in a couple quick steps.

After you’ve completed the above steps once, you’ll stay signed into Misthos, so fortunately you only have to go through this somewhat-complicated process once! Now you can continue using your default browser for all actions that don’t require a Ledger and jump straight to app.misthos.io in Chrome whenever an action involving a Ledger is required.

We hope you benefit from the additional security provided by the Ledger integration, and we look forward to your feedback. Reach us via contact@misthos.io or on Twitter.
