Booker Slaps the Orange Underbelly of the GOP

Senator Cory Booker’s efforts today probably won’t affect Brett Kavanuagh’s prospects of becoming a confirmed jurist on the Supreme Court of the United States. Republicans are unreasonably committed to the flawed nominee and will certainly vote for confirmation.

Booker may have been able to shame Committe Chairman Chuck Grassley into releasing a small, somewhat meaningful trove of documents but he won’t be able to shame an already, thoroughly disgraced majority of GOP legislators into recosidering a pre-determined “yes” vote.

To be completey fair, most Senate Democrats predetermined a “no” vote.

On the other hand, Booker achived something no current Democratic politician has been willing or able to do. He risked his job and put the Republicans on notice.

Republicans noticed!

Recalcitrant and defiant, they capitualted to Booker’s demands and, for well over twelve hours, they wallowed about in an unfamilar, power-free vacuum. They were outfoxed by an intellectually superior colleague, a Senator who actually earned his seat, a Senator unafraid of consequences becuase he hasn't been shielded from them, a Senator who’s manhood and self worth isn’t tethered to his inclusion on a legislative roster. A mature ego unattached to it’s job title is a credible threat to an id fully dependent upon it’s perceived status.

Booker temporarily stole the moral high ground. He broke the rules and, un-politically savvy, put his ass (and those of his staffers) on the line. (Sure, it’s unrealistic Senate Republicans could actually expel him for violating chamber rules. Termination requires a two-thirds vote.)

Still, he won the day because his efforts were sincere. Booker and his staffers were more then ready to lose their jobs. More importantly, his assertion that the Kavanaugh hearing devolved into a “sham” before it even began was as honest as it was correct.

The GOP lost today because they no longer understand the concepts of personal honor and legitimate patriotism, once the cornerstones of conservative thinking. They cannot, will not fathom any cause greater then the few, crumbling, remaning pillars of their communal ideologies. They are simply Trump; nothing more and soon-to-be less.

Two years vehmetly defending sexual assaulters, a pedophile, a cadre of transparent liars, money launderers, wife beaters, draft dodgers, national traitors, incompetent lawyers, human rights violators and a crazed, wannabe dictator of a President have taken more then a toll on these Senators.

The GOP slogs about now in the immoral low ground of Donald Trump’s orange tainted, DC swamp. Booker pulled the final, moral life preserver out from under them today. It’s more then likely other Democrats will follow.
